Words on Wednesday is going to be all about a part of the writing process as I do it, so look out for posts on drafting, revisions, and things in between and things that cover all of those thing
I’m going to change things up slightly, which means that introduction won’t be there anymore! Hopefully the title will be enough to say that for now, these Words on Wednesday posts are going to be about my current work in progress Curiouser & Curiouser.
I started working on it a couple of weeks ago and let me tell you, there is nothing better as a writer then when a project makes you be all like:
As a retelling of Alice in Wonderland, I’m expecting a lot of magic and a lot of weirdness, but I’m also wanting to have a friendship thread in it.
The magic stuff, as expected, is easy, but the friendship stuff, because of the three POVs and three adventures in the book, is not so easy. And I’ve only just started writing it.
There’s also the slight problem of making sure that the world of Wonderland familiar but also different. While I was rereading the original book, I realised that it’s a lot shorter than I remember and not that complex, which means the world seems very simple. This is a good thing and a bad thing. It’s a good thing because it means that I can be really imaginative with what I do about the world, but it’s a bad thing because I’m not sure what people expect and what rules there might be.
I’m hoping the project will continue to be fun and that I can finish it by Valentine’s Day with the same enthusiasm that I have now and a lot of words!
