Words on Wednesday: #FoundlingsYA

Firstly, it appears that I forgot to do a blog post last week so I would like to apologise for that.

Over the last two weeks, I have been making slow but steady progress on #foundlingsYA. I now have a deadline of the 18th December, and I’m sure I’m going to hit it. Especially with two full chapters to go before THE END.

How has your writing gone in the past two weeks?

Monday Muses

Firstly, I would like to apologise for not doing a blog post last week. It stupidly slipped my mind.

Over the past two weeks I have been inspired by one thing in particular: the TV show Dickensian. Putting Dickens characters together and in situations that lead to events of their books, it me no surprise that it’s really inspiring at the moment.

What has inspired you?

Words on Wednesday: NaNoWriMo 2016

OVERVIEW

This week can best be described in these words: BIG. WRITING. PARTY.

DAY BY DAY
DAY SEVENTEEN
WORD COUNT: 28,383

Those words are from the previous Wednesday night. No words happened, but I did do a scene outline so I felt productive.

DAY EIGHTEEN
WORD COUNT: 30,394

I hit the big 3-0! With 20,000 words to go, sort of confident is how I feel about the rest of the month…

DAY NINTEEN
WORD COUNT: 32,632

Thanks to watching Fantastic Beasts  and Where to Find Them and the first part of the NaNo London All Night Lock In, I got ever so slightly ahead.
DAY TWENTY
WORD COUNT: 35,829

Thanks to the second part of the NaNo London All Night Lock In, I’m ahead again. Not only that, but with that and what I wrote at home, I had a 3K day again! Yay!

DAY TWENTY ONE
WORD COUNT: 37,555

All I can say about this Monday is that all of the progress was made!

DAY TWENTY TWO
WORD COUNT: 40,049

OMG I AM AHEAD! I HAVE 40K!

DAY TWENTY THREE
WORD COUNT: 40,1107

Another day for fairly slow progress but that was partly because of work…

Words on Wednesday: NaNoWriMo 2016

OVERVIEW

This has been a slightly overwhelming week. It’s my first time doing NaNo with the job I have so while things are flexible, some days it’s going to be hard. I’m sure write ins will help though!

DAY BY DAY

DAY THREE

WORD COUNT: 7,034

This was one of those days where I made awesomely unexpected progress. Thanks to a combination of a write in and a Harry Potter Word Crawl, I got ahead, include 847 words in 45 minutes!

DAY FOUR

WORD COUNT: 8,088

This was a bit of a slow day in terms of word count, but I was productive in other ways: brainstorming and a scene outline, so I didn’t feel bad. Steady progress is better than no progress, after all.

DAY FIVE

WORD COUNT: 9,188

With a show on Netflix, I got over 1,000 words done and made some steady progress.

DAY SIX

WORD COUNT: 10,729

Another day for steady progress. Well on my way to winning NaNoWriMo 2016.

DAY SEVEN

WORD COUNT: 11,718

Another day for steady progress. I was hoping to hit 12,000 words but that didn’t happen.

DAY EIGHT

WORD COUNT: 13.613

While I was on par, I was hoping to do better than that, but because of technology being a pain in the butt, I didn’t.

DAY NINE

WORD COUNT: 13,674

This is my word count at the time of posting this. The perils of working, even part time…

Words on Wednesday: NaNoWriMo 2016

NaNoWriMo prep has gone rather well this week. There are two things I’ve been focusing on.

Research: because I’m writing historical fiction, I’m finding it’s very important to do what I call major research before NaNoWriMo starts so that hopefully there is less research come November. By major research I mean the big stuff that I’m pretty sure I need to know that might affect my characters or the plot.

Characters: this seems like it’s going to be a very character based story so I think it’s very important to know their arcs. I’m not doing huge character profiles but I think I almost know enough to start writing the story.

How has your prep been going? Do you feel ready?

New Project

Hello.

As mentioned on Monday, I have decided upon a new project for NaNoWriMo 2016 and it’s in a genre I’ve never written before: YA historical. The reason I’m doing this is because I got an idea after visiting some museums on Friday and decided to go with it. I’ve also learnt that prepping for NaNo too early for the method I chose to try again this year is September – I spent a lot of time sitting around waiting for it to start.

I’ve barely started brainstorming, but what I can say is that the project is set in Victorian times and that the main character is a foundling, an abandoned child, who sets out trying to find out who she really is.

Hopefully by this time next week I will be nearly ready to write, but we’ll see.

Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year?
